The Gatesville Messenger, Wednesday, February 22, 2012, Page 5 The Dispatch Iva Lee Brewer Iva Lee "Dot" Brewer, of Oglesby, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, at her home. She was 75. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Oglesby.

Mrs. Brewer was born March 23, 1936, in Bosque County to Scott and Opal Polston. She grew up and attended school in McGregor. She worked at Brigadier Homes in Waco and at Ridgecrest Retirement Home for 15 years until her retirement in 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe "Mousie" Polston.

Survivors include her daughter, Jo Ann Brunson of Oglesby; a granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild. Julious Albert (Mac) McLaughlin Julious Albert (Mac) McLaughlin, 99, of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012, in Gatesville. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Scott's Funeral Home with Ben Winder officiating. Burial followed on Monday in Conroe, Texas, at Garden Park Cemetery.

Mac was born on March 1, 1912, in Gatesville, TX, to the late Jesse and Annie Hunt McLaughlin. Mac served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1944. He met Inez Matchett in Houston and on April 5, 1947, they were married. Inez preceded him in death in 1993.

Mac worked for Brown and Root Oil Company for 45 years as a welder. Upon his retirement, he and Inez settled in Conroe, TX, until her death. Mac moved to Gatesville in the late 1990s. Julious is survived by his nephews, Grady McLaughlin and wife, Donna, of Gatesville and Noel McLaughlin of Coco Beach, FL; nieces, Margie Beechley and husband, Charles, of Jonesboro, Dorothy Mason and husband, Laverne, of Jonesboro, Sybil Roe of McGregor, Barbara Wright and husband, George, of Houston, Joyce Ballard of Waco and Anne Klecka of Gatesville; and a host of other extended family members. Four G'ville police participate in drug Four Gatesville Police Department officers were among the 53 law enforcement officials throughout Texas who attended a pharmaceutical drug diversion training last week at Central Texas Council of Governments to learn how to fight illegal trafficking and abuse of prescription medications. The seminar was hosted by the Fort Hood Police Department and presented by the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBILEEDA) and a pharmaceutical company. The education session was led by Landon Gibbs and Ed Cartwright, of Purdue Pharma's Law Enforcement Liaison Education Department. Both Gibbs and Cartwright have a combined 60 years of law enforcement experience, including investigating the illegal trafficking (or of prescription medications. Both Gibbs and Cartwright also discussed how the illegal trafficking and abuse of prescription medications can interfere with the care of people with serious illnesses and injuries. "These medications have a legitimate purpose when used as directed," according to Cartwright. "However, abusing prescription medications can have dangerous and even deadly consequences and can make it harder for people who need these medications to get them." Feb.

17 4:31 a.m., a warning was issued after officers responded to a reckless driver call on South Highway 36. 10:20 a.m., a transport was needed after Gatesville fire and ambulance units responded to an accident on FM 183 at Pearl. 11:46 a.m., a Class complaint form was issued after a citizen in the 300 block of South Lovers Lane reported a case of criminal mischief. 6:28 p.m., an employee at the hospital emergency room reported a victim of an assault at the emergency room. 7:36 p.m., a woman in the 600 block of College Street reported some suspicious activity in the area.

Attendees also learned about what law enforcement officials can do to deter pharmacy theft. RxPATROL, a program created and funded by Purdue, helps pharmacists guard against robberies and burglaries and assists law enforcement efforts to catch pharmacy crime suspects. To date, law enforcement has used the program in combination with reward offers through local Crime Stoppers programs to catch more than 100 pharmacy theft suspects. "Abuse of prescription medicine is dangerous and problematic, as with any illicit drug. Law enforcement and community members need to join forces to fight this crime," said Jonathan Caylor, public information officer.
