'Superman' Is Only Make Believe We human beings are rough ourselves. We usually try to set goals for ourselves and then settle for nothing less than complete success. Sometimes these goals are too high to begin with. Sometimes we seem to forget that we are human and do not succeed at everything we try. We all seem to want to be Superman! Some people really do expect too much of themselves.

They expect so much and then work themselves into a constant state of worry and anxiety because they think that they are not accomplishing as much as they think they should. Seldom is any thought given to the idea that the goal may be too high to begin with or that the expectation to succeed at everything is unrealistic. Striving for perfection can be MENTAL HEALTH from A to by SAM TESSEN self-defeating. It is almost like an open invitation to failure. Trying to accomplish something that is outside of our means of actually doing can lead to failure.

The first place to look is at the goals and expectations we have for ourselves. There are usually three different types of tasks facing us: 1. those tasks we have no choice in doing, 2. those tasks we do well and also enjoy doing, and 3.

those tasks we really can't do so well. Figuring out which tasks we really have no choice about is an important part. People have to work or take care of the house. It is best to accept these tasks and try to do one's best at them. Fighting them only causes frustration and anger.

Those tasks that we can honestly say we do well and enjoy doing should be given our best efforts and abilities. Put. your major efforts into these. These tasks bring a person a higher degree of satisfaction and good feeling. Everyone has various things that he or she does well; it requires that we be honest about them and admit them to ourselves.

It also can result in some enjoyment in doing the tasks. THE THIRD TYPE of tasks is a little more difficult to deal with. Everyone has certain things that they do not do as well as other things. This also does require some honesty with oneself. It further requires some acceptance of reality and giving up the 'Superman' ideal.

Once we are honest about these types of tasks, one should give them the best effort and ability but not expect success or total accomplishment. Giving them CORYELL REVISITED Judge R. E. B. Baylor presided at the first district court session in Gatesville in 1856.
