7 7 and 2 got i i i i a The Gatesville Messenger, Wednesday, January 10, 2001, Page 5. 0 museum year was huge success Last year was filled with many. more projects and accomplishments than might be thought at the Coryell Museum and Historical Center, according to board of directors president Helen Swift. At last week's annual membership meeting, Swift reported the accomplishments were "Many more than one would think until trying to list them for an annual report." The expansion and planning of exhibits included various new acquisitions and displays, as well as projects still in progress. Some of the projects include an expanded military exhibit, a growing educational area, a store front blacksmith shop and ever-changing items in the gift shop.

Among the projects still to be completed are the "Welcome to Gatesville" banners for highways leading into Gatesville, the laying of the commemorative brick sidewalk, and the new family history book, which has exceeded all expectations. Swift expressed her appreciation for the many volunteers who work in the museum and gift shop, as well as the community for their support of the museum's fund-raising activities. Fund-raisers have included luncheons, style shows, drawings, garage sales and a bakeless bake sale, along with many monetary donations. She also reported on the areas where the prison community squads have assisted the museum. Membership has grown to 204, the largest in the history of the museum, although the number of people represented by the membership may be much higher because memberships are broken into individual, couples, families and businesses.

While acknowledging the many volunteers, Swift also expressed the hope that more newcomers and younger people will join the volunteer ranks. Ray Simpson, treasurer, reported on various financial matters concerning the museum. Major expenditures have included a new roof for the Burt Building, two steel fire escapes, and additional heating and cooling systems, as well as general operating expenses. He also reported on the restoration project at the Christian Church. Reelected to two-year terms were Swift, president; Simpson, treasurer; and board members Evelyn Bohne, Dolores England, Sue Fuch, Angie Grace, Paul Gately, John Hull, Janelle Kerr and Antonece Rogers.

Holdovers include Nancy Ashcraft, secretary; Hugh Hall, vice president; and board members Georgia Arnett, Ralph Bailey, Judy Brown, Billy Byrom, Jenny Hendrickson, Bill Herridge, John Frank Post, Ida Lee Rogers and Josephine Sloan.
