George W. Tyler, the subject of the book, was the son of O. T. Tyler, who was the county's first chief justice or county judge and who is widely recognized as "the father of Coryell County." O. T.

Tyler and his wife, Carolyn Childers Tyler, were the first couple married in what is now Coryell County. Their license was issued at Fort Gates in 1850 when the area was still a part of Bell County and was the first license issued in that county. THEIR SON, George Tyler who was born near Fort Gates in 1851, was later a member of the Texas Legislature and a well-known attorney and historian. He was the author of the monumental "History of Bell County," published DAYTON KELLEY times been named president of the Central Texas Genealogical Society of Waco, selected by the directors of the Waco-Mc-Lennan County Library as chairman of a special committee to plan and put into operation a local history collection at the library, elected to the board of directors and president of the Waco Heritage Society and president of the Waco in 1936 and recently reprinted. amounting to $13,435, according Civil War Round Table.

1 I 1 f.fv I Dayton Kelley, the author of the biography of George W. Tyler, is curator of the Texas Collection at Baylor University and is also the author and publisher of several other books. Among these is "A History of Coryell County" by Frank E. Simmons of Oglesby which Kelley has republished. Copies of "George W.

Tyler and Some of His Achievements," "A History of Coryell County" and some of Kelley's other books will be available at the library following the dedication ceremonies and copies may be purchased at that time. Copies of the books may also be purchased at the centennial headquarters and at the library this week and throughout centennial week. Bell County, becamecmator of the Texas Collection at Baylor in September, 1969. Prior to that time, he was director of public relations and head of the journalism department at Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Bel-ton, a post he held for 12 years. He holds a master of journalism degree from the University of Texas and a bachelor of arts from Baylor, Long a local history enthusiast, he has written numerous feature articles and historical sketches for magazines, periodicals and newspapers, including the Dallas Morning News and the Waco Tribune-Herald.
