Microwave ovens are the most energy efficient ovens ever invented. They cook food quickly, they enhance the nutritional value of food, and they're safe when used properly. To make sure you're using your microwave oven safely, follow these simple rules. IUse only microwave-safe utensils. Don't use metal in the micro- wave.

TNP has a free brochure that contains a test for determining if a utensil is microwave safe. 2 Use adequate electrical current. Your microwave does not re- quire additional wiring. However, your unit should be on a separate circuit and have nothing else operating on that line. Avoid using an extension cord with a microwave.

3 Don't use a microwave to can fresh foods. However, it is great for blanching fresh vegetables for freezing and for making jellies and jams. It also is good for drying herbs.
